Galeria Neon Side in Wrocław, Poland, is a captivating and unique destination that offers a blend of art, history, and urban exploration.
Galeria Neon Side is an outdoor museum and art installation that celebrates the neon signs of the past. It’s essentially an open-air gallery that showcases a diverse collection of vintage neon signs from the mid-20th century.
As you explore the Galeria Neon Side, you’ll encounter an array of neon signs that once adorned shops, restaurants, and cinemas across Wrocław. These signs have been meticulously restored to their former glory, and they come in various shapes, colors, and sizes. They provide a nostalgic glimpse into the city’s history and the vibrant aesthetic of a bygone era.
Beyond their historical significance, the neon signs at Galeria Neon Side are considered works of art in their own right. The way they illuminate the area during the evening creates a captivating and almost surreal atmosphere, making it an ideal place for nighttime visits and photography enthusiasts.
Wandering around the Nadodrze district, where Galeria Neon Side is located, is an experience in itself. This district is known for its artistic vibe, colorful murals, and unique atmosphere. You can also find cozy cafes, small shops, and other cultural attractions nearby.
Visit Notes
It should go without saying, but it’s best to visit at night, or at least dusk. It’s in a courtyard between buildings. To get there you can go through the passage from Świętego Antoniego or from Ruska. If you come in from Świętego Antoniego, you’ll pass a little art gallery where they sell unique pieces from local artists. To enter, we had to ring a doorbell and a wonderful lady helped us part with our money.
There are cafes in the courtyard where you can buy a drink and soak in the neon for as long as you like.
