Brückturm Museum

The Brückturm Museum in Regensburg is a small but fascinating museum located inside the Bridge Tower (Brückturm) at the entrance of the city’s famous Stone Bridge (Steinerne Brücke). This historic tower, originally part of the city’s medieval defenses, offers visitors a glimpse into the history of Regensburg, the Danube River, and the iconic Stone Bridge, which has connected the city for nearly 900 years.

Inside the museum, you’ll find historical exhibits, old photographs, and architectural models that tell the story of the bridge’s construction in the 12th century and its role in medieval trade and daily life. You can also learn about the challenges of maintaining the bridge over the centuries, including repairs, floods, and wars.

One of the biggest highlights of visiting the Brückturm Museum is the spectacular panoramic view from the top of the tower. After climbing the narrow staircase, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Regensburg’s old town, the Danube River, and beyond—making it a great spot for photography.

For history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, or anyone looking for a unique perspective on Regensburg, the Brückturm Museum is a hidden gem that provides an insightful and memorable experience of the city’s past.

Visit Notes

This is another good, quick stop. We fed some coins into a turnstile and were admitted to the tower where we climbed the steps to a couple of different levels. There used to be a man who lived here and his job was to watch over the town for fires. At the top of the tower, you’ll find great views over the Stone Bridge as well as the city of Regensburg. For some reason, I was strangely fascinated by the layers of paint and old stenciling on the walls from centuries of different renovations. Yes, I’m easily amused.
