Itsasmuseum Bilbao, formerly known as the Ría de Bilbao Maritime Museum, is a cultural institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich maritime heritage of Bilbao and the Biscay region. The outdoor area includes restored vessels and the iconic “Carola” crane, a symbol of Bilbao’s shipbuilding legacy. Inside, the museum’s permanent exhibition is organized into three main themes: the estuary, port and trade, and shipbuilding. These sections delve into the evolution of the Bilbao estuary, the development of maritime commerce, and the shipbuilding techniques that have been integral to the region’s economy.
