Hello, Iโm Veronica
The sky is not completely dark at night. Were the sky absolutely dark, one would not be able to see the silhouette of an object against the sky.

Though the monastery itself is no longer active, its historic church, St. Jakob, remains a peaceful and atmospheric place to visit. The simple yet impressive interior reflects its monastic origins, providing a quiet contrast to Regensburgโs more ornate churches.

One of the highlights of visiting the Altes Rathaus is the Imperial Chamber, where emperors and representatives from across the empire debated key political decisions. The medieval courtroom and torture chamber in the basement provide a chilling insight into the justice system of the time. Visit Notes
Sure, you could see the Altes Rathaus while just walking by, or you could go next door to the visitor center and book the tour. Since we spoke English, we were given an audio guide to listen to while following the German-speaking tour guide. The interior of the town hall and the torture dungeon were well worth visiting.

St. Peterโs Cathedral

St. Peterโs Cathedral (Regensburger Dom) is the most iconic landmark in Regensburg and one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Bavaria. Towering over the cityโs medieval Old Town, this stunning cathedral has been the spiritual heart of Regensburg for centuries and remains an absolute must-visit for anyone exploring the city.
Construction began in the 13th century and continued for over 600 years, resulting in the breathtaking twin spires, intricate stone carvings, and magnificent stained-glass windows that still awe visitors today. The interior is equally impressive, featuring towering columns, ribbed vaults, and beautiful medieval stained glass from the 14th century that bathes the space in colorful light.
One of the cathedralโs most famous attractions is the Regensburger Domspatzen, the world-renowned boys’ choir, which has been performing sacred music for over 1,000 years. If you have the chance, attending a service or concert is an unforgettable experience.
Visitors can also explore the cathedral treasury, which houses religious artifacts, and the crypt, where past bishops of Regensburg are buried. Located in the heart of the Old Town, St. Peterโs Cathedral is not only a place of worship but also a masterpiece of medieval art and architecture, making it an essential stop for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone looking to experience the soul of Regensburg.
Visit Notes
This is a gorgeous Gothic church, but boy oh boy, it was dark inside. I’m amazed I got any pictures at all. I literally had to stop and let my eyes adjust for a minute when I walked inside or I would have tripped over something. I don’t know if that’s the norm or if it had something to do with the renovations happening on the exterior. Either way, it’s well worth a walk around if you’re in the area. If you can, visit for one of their organ concerts. They turn the lights on inside so you can see everything better and you also get to enjoy the organ music.

The Brรผckturm Museum in Regensburg is a small but fascinating museum located inside the Bridge Tower (Brรผckturm) at the entrance of the cityโs famous Stone Bridge (Steinerne Brรผcke). One of the biggest highlights of visiting the Brรผckturm Museum is the spectacular panoramic view from the top of the tower. After climbing the narrow staircase, youโll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Regensburgโs old town, the Danube River, and beyondโmaking it a great spot for photography.

Visit Notes
This is another good, quick stop. We fed some coins into a turnstile and were admitted to the tower where we climbed the steps to a couple of different levels. There used to be a man who lived here and his job was to watch over the town for fires. At the top of the tower, you’ll find great views over the Stone Bridge as well as the city of Regensburg. For some reason, I was strangely fascinated by the layers of paint and old stenciling on the walls from centuries of different renovations. Yes, I’m easily amused.
