This cemetery, built over the ruins of an ancient church, is beautiful stop on your trip to Comillas, Spain. At the entrance to the cemetery, you will pass through an archway that remains standing from the original church structure. You will also find a guardian angel statue, designed by José Llimona. The angel watches over you as you pass through the entrance.
As you wander further into the cemetery, you’ll come across other notable structures, such as the neo-Gothic chapel dedicated to the Bishop of Madrid, which showcases intricate stained glass windows and a beautifully sculpted facade. Additionally, the neo-Gothic mausoleum of the Sobrellano family, designed by Martorell himself, stands out with its striking green tiles and decorative motifs.
Aside from the architectural marvels, the natural surroundings of the cemetery are equally breathtaking. The cemetery is perched on a hill, offering panoramic views of the picturesque town of Comillas, the coastline, and the surrounding countryside.
