Cuatro Postes Lookout

Cuatro Postes Lookout is situated just outside the ancient city walls of รvila, which is renowned for being one of the best-preserved medieval walled cities in Europe. The lookout’s history is intertwined with the romantic legend of Saint Teresa of รvila, a prominent Spanish mystic, writer, and Roman Catholic saint who lived in the 16th century.

According to local lore, this is the location where Teresa de Jรฉsus and her brother Rodriguo were detained by their uncle before they could travel to the lands of the infidels to be martyred.

The Cuatro Postes Lookout itself is a simple yet striking structure. It consists of a stone platform or terrace situated on a small hill just outside the city walls. From this elevated position, you’ll get a breathtaking view of รvila’s impressive fortifications, including its medieval walls, towers, and gates.

At the center of the platform, you’ll find a stone cross dedicated to Saint Teresa, paying tribute to her connection to the site. The monument dates from 1566, but the cross had to be replaced in 1995 when it was destroyed in an act of vandalism.

To reach the Cuatro Postes Lookout, you can take a leisurely stroll from the city center, as it is only a short distance away from the city walls.
