The museum is free to enter and it’s a quick walk around. If you’re in the area it’s worth it to stop in, but don’t go out of your way unless you have a deep interest in old stone carvings.

The architecture of the Igreja Matriz de Barcelos showcases a blend of various styles due to the multiple renovations and influences it has undergone throughout its existence. The exterior of the church has an imposing stone facade, with thick walls and a beautiful rose window. The entrance features a pointed arch with lovely carvings. A bell tower stands to one side. There isn’t much ornamentation on the exterior of this church, but wait until you stop inside.
On the interior, you’ll find the walls covered in azulejo tiles, letting you know you are definitely in Portugal. Take some time to appreciate the biblical scenes depicted on the tiles. Stained glass projects filtered, colorful light into the space and beautifully embellished chapels round out the inside of this charming church.
