    Visit Notes

I was so excited to see this place. Unfortunately, there are no pictures allowed inside (except in the church next door). Not my favorite thing, but okay. What I didn’t like was that an employee literally followed us into every single room and stared at us the entire time. It felt very creepy and really put a damper on our visit. As far as I could tell, they weren’t doing this to anyone else so I’m not sure why we merited the attention.

The mausoleum room was very pretty, but also extremely dimly lit. The pictures from the website make it look like they have lighting, but this wasn’t on.

    I don’t know… I just felt this place was a letdown.

    Museo Casa Botines Gaudรญ, Leรณn

The Museo Casa Botines is a fascinating historical and architectural gem located in Leรณn, Spain. It holds great significance as one of the prominent works of the renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudรญ, famous for his extraordinary contributions to modernist architecture.

The history of Museo Casa Botines dates back to the late 19th century when the textile industrialist Joan Homs i Botinร s commissioned Gaudรญ to design a commercial and residential building in Leรณn. The construction began in 1891 and was completed in 1894. The building was initially intended to serve as a commercial center on the ground floor and apartments on the upper levels, reflecting the architectural trends of the time.

In 1929, the building was acquired by the Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Leรณn, a savings bank. Since then, it has housed various institutions and organizations, serving multiple purposes over the years. In 2010, the building underwent extensive restoration, and today it operates as a museum, offering visitors a glimpse into Gaudรญ’s architectural brilliance.

The building features a stunning combination of stone and brickwork, adorned with intricate details and decorative elements typical of Gaudรญ’s designs.

One of the most striking aspects of the facade is its grandeur, with four large pointed arches on the ground floor, reminiscent of the Gothic architectural tradition prevalent in Leรณn. Above these arches, a series of smaller arches, balconies, and ornamental motifs showcase Gaudรญ’s signature touch, giving the building its distinctive modernist appearance.

The rooftop, crowned by a beautiful triangular pediment, displays Gaudรญ’s mastery of design, with chimneys resembling medieval knights’ helmets and intricate wrought ironwork railings.
