Ponte di Castelvecchio

Ponte di Castelvecchio is a striking red-brick bridge that arches gracefully over the Adige River, built in the 14th century as part of Verona’s medieval fortifications. Walking across it feels a bit cinematic: the crenellated walls and towers at either end recall its defensive past, while the river below offers shimmering reflections of the city’s stonework and sky. From the midpoint you get one of the classic Verona views—meandering water, terracotta roofs, and the layered skyline of churches and towers.

The bridge connects the compact historic center with the Castelvecchio museum and its riverside promenade, so it’s both a scenic spot and a practical route for exploring. Stroll slowly to take in the masonry and the vistas, pause to watch kayakers or swans on the river, and consider timing a visit for late afternoon when warm light softens the stones; in the evening the bridge is quieter and beautifully lit, making it a romantic place for a short walk.
