Chiesa di Sant’Andrea al Quirinale

Sant’Andrea al Quirinale is a small Baroque church on the Quirinal Hill, designed mainly by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in the 17th century for the Jesuits. From the street it looks elegant but not huge; once inside you notice a compact, oval space filled with rich decoration—marble, gilding, and dramatic curves—that shows Bernini’s gift for making a small room feel grand and theatrical.

The interior centers on a high altar with a striking sculptural group and a dome with painted and stucco details that draw your eye upward. Light and shadow are used on purpose to give the space a lively, almost stage-like effect; people come to admire the art and architecture as much as to attend services, since the church is a standout example of Baroque design in Rome.
