Trinità dei Monti sits right above the Spanish Steps, and inside it feels like a layered mix of Renaissance design and family-patron “chapel hunting.” The church has multiple side chapels branching off a single nave, so you’re constantly turning to look at a new decorated space rather than just staring at one giant main altar.
Inside, the art is especially notable for its standout works by Daniele da Volterra, including the well-known “Deposition from the Cross” in a side chapel and other major chapel paintings and fresco cycles. You’ll also see frescoes by painters tied to the mid-1500s (like Perino del Vaga, plus artists who finished/extended his work, and Pablo de Céspedes), and there’s the famous devotional image Mater Admirabilis, a Marian fresco said to be miraculous and traditionally linked to prayers and local veneration.
